Decoding Acne Scar Morphologies
No two acne scars are identical. Successfully restoring smooth skin texture requires accurately categorizing scar subtypes:
- Icepick Scars: Deep, narrow pits (<2mm) extending down into the deep dermis, resembling puncture wounds from a miniature needle.
- Boxcar Scars: Sharp, vertically punched-out depressions with distinct edges, commonly 1.5–4.0mm wide.
- Rolling Scars: Broad depressions (>4mm) with sloping margins caused by subdermal fibrous bands tethering the epidermis to the subcutaneous tissue.
The Multi-Modal Dermatological Approach
Modern clinical dermatology recognizes that a single laser cannot resolve multiple scar morphologies. At Cosmo Radiance, our specialists deploy a staged multi-technology protocol:
- Nokor Subcision: Releases deep rolling scar tethering bands to elevate the dermal base.
- Fractional Microneedling Radiofrequency (MNRF): Insulated micro-needles penetrate 1.5 to 3.5mm into the dermis, delivering controlled thermal energy that remodels collagen without overheating superficial melanin (safe for Indian skin types III–V).
- Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing: Polishes superficial boxcar shoulders and evens surface micro-texture.
- Autologous GFC / PRP Infiltration: Concentrated growth factors accelerate re-epithelialization and reduce post-laser redness.
